BARBIE MULLY
Herbalist
A self-proclaimed plant lover, Barbie has been digging in the dirt since she was a tiny pea-picker in her late grandfather’s massive, rural garden. Her love of plants and the smell of dirt, paired with an intense internal drive to know more about natural healing, led Barbie to the art of herbalism. She thoughtfully grows and prepares many of her own remedies at her home in Millard. Barbie’s philosophy and teaching style reflects her strong conviction that everyone should have access and basic knowledge to the power of plants.
In addition to extensive reading and independent study, she has completed Herbal Intensive-year one, Class 2019, taught by Nebraska-based Kate Bodmann, RH (AHG) RA Clinical Herbalist and Aromatherapist, and the Science and Art of Herbology program designed by the world-renowned Rosemary Gladstar. Logging over 120 volunteer hours since she began in November 2020, Barbie works with Omaha’s own Wild Roots People’s Clinic in the apothecary, teaching and collaborating on special projects. She has completed an herbal-specific Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) intensive focused on FDA regulations and has helped put these practices into action. Barbie continues to look for ways to share her love of plants and knowledge of healthy healing wherever possible.
Artist
Barbie is a creative with a mind that won't stop. A self-taught painter, weaver, photographer and multi-media designer, she finds joy in the process of making an idea come to life. Her work has been featured on several websites and in magazines.
Recognized by the Better Homes and Gardens magazine, Barbie is a holiday tree ornament contest winner for her upcycled wreath design made of branded beer caps. Her flowers, made from upcycled plastic, were featured art for the launch of a bottled water website owned by a Nestle. A highlighted craft creator on the Discovery Channel's HGTV kids website, Barbie has also been commissioned for local work. Perhaps her most notable piece is a butterfly bench painted as part of the Wings over Papillion 150-year celebration. The bench is located just outside Papillion Manor in a quaint community garden aside two little libraries. Additionally, as part of Omaha Zoo's Earth Day celebration, her upcycled seed starters were spotlighted.
Barbie holds a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She has taken continuing education classes in both graphic and pattern design. She has taught and presented classes on basic art to all ages. A firm believer that art is simply an extension of the soul, she said, " We are all artists. We only need the space, time and tools to let our art out."
